On July 1st, 2011, CIC reduced the number of applications allowed to be submitted under the Federal Skilled Worker program (under the 29 occupations list) to a maximum of 10,000 applications for this coming year. The Canadian government has begun the process of revoking the citizenship of those whom would have obtained it fraudulently. The government will revoke the citizenship of 1, 800 people, largely believed to be currently living overseas. The government has stated that this is the first wave of revocations, and that there will be more revocations of citizenship in the near future.
