THE IMMIGRATION PROCESS

Business Category (Canada)

Under the business category, there exist 3 different classes of immigrants:

  1. Investors;
  2. Entrepreneurs;
  3. Self-employed persons.

Each of these classes has their own unique evaluation criteria.

Investors (Canada):

In order to qualify under the Investor program, potential applicants must demonstrate:

  1. A minimum of 2 years experience (within the last 5 years) in running a business OR in a management position where you have managed at least 5 full-time employees;
  2. A net worth of at least $800,000 CAD that was legally obtained;
  3. Willingness to make an investment of $400,000 CAD (financing may be available).

Entrepreneurs (Canada):

In order to qualify under the Entrepreneur program, potential applicants must demonstrate:

  1. Have a minimum of 2 years of business experience;
  2. Have a net worth of at least $300,000 CAD that was obtained legally;
  3. Fulfill 3 conditions for at least 1 year within the 3 years after the day on which the applicant becomes a permanent resident:
    • Make a commitment to control (at least 33 1/3 %) of a qualifying Canadian business;
    • Provide active and on-going management of the qualifying Canadian business;
    • Must create at least 1 full-time job equivalent in the qualifying Canadian business for Canadian citizens or permanent residents (other than the entrepreneur or his family members).

Self-Employed (Canada)

In order to qualify under the Self-Employed program, potential applicants must demonstrate:

  1. Within the last 5 years, have at least 2 years of relevant experience:
    • Self-employment in cultural activities or athletics;
    • Participation at a world-class level in cultural activities or athletics;
    • Farm management experience;
  2. Intention and ability to create their own business which would contribute to Canadian culture and athletics; OR intention and ability to purchase and manage a farm in Canada;
